News broke out yesterday that Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has issued a ‘Certificate of Recongnition’ to one Chief Unanawo Unanawo as the duely elected Village head of Atibe Community in Afaha Eket, Eket LGA (See it here).
The governor said and i quote;
“This certificate is given to you because we discovered that the dispute committee had meet and resolved the matter.
“It was also discovered that it was a mistake and the certificate was issued to Chief Inam Unanawo who was not the rightful village head of Atibe,” he said.
Well, its obvious this news didn’t go down well with the other camp involve in the chieftaincy tussle as panic would later engulf the community as gunshots can be heard from all corners.
An Eye-witness says that the two embattled chiefs both hold ‘Certificate of Recognition’ signed and released by the state Governor.
And the current situation has it that the two assumed palaces have Nigerian flags which serves as a symbol of Ruler-ship mounted in both premise.
The villagers exclaim that if Chief Unanawo Unanawo is the rightful ruler, the certificate issued to the former (Chief Inam Unanawo) should be withdrawn.
This will go a long way in settling the dispute.
It will be recalled that few days ago, the state governor had sworn into office, Hon Frank Archibong as the new Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, but when contacted, the Commissioner denied any information leading to the emergence of the new Village head.
