The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), has called on the Akwa Ibom State Govt to reconstitute the task force on fake and expired drugs in the state.
The chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Akwaowo Akpabio, made the appeal today at the dump site where fake and expired drugs, valued at the sum of eighteen million six hundred and seventy-five thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira were publicly destroyed.
He said the PSN will not tolerate expired drugs being within the reach of citizens.
Akpabio further called on the state government to reconstitute a task force on unwholesome drugs, emphasizing that the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria is not empowered to rid stores of fake drugs.
The commissioner for health, Prof. Augustine Umoh, who was represented by Pharmacist Otobong Umana, thanked the executives of PSN and promised to work with relevant agencies to rid the state of fake and expired drugs.
Also part of the inspection team were Pharm(Mrs) Tamunopekerebia Solomon, State Officer, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria for Akwa Ibom as well as the Secretary and treasurer of PSN, Akwa Ibom state.
