The Late Air Commodore(Otuekong) Idongesit Nkanga,Rtd has been described as a great patriot who devoted his life to service to humanity.
The leadership of Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum noted this in a condolence visit to the family of the late Sage, at his country home at Ikot Nya, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
They said the exit of Otuekong Nkanga was not just a loss to his immediate family and Akwa Ibom state, but to the entire country.
The leader of the delegation, Rt.Hon. Chief Nduese Essien described Nkanga as a statesman who as governor between 1990 and 1992, set a template of good governance.
He said that in about 13 months, numerous achievements like state secretariat complex, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, Uyo to Afaha Nsit Road and the Babangida Avenue among others sprung up in the state, endearing Nkanga to his people.
They also recounted that the Late commander of the Presidential fleet, remained a major rallying point, assisting to entrench good governance in the state since the return to democracy, where he midwived three successive governments into power.
Chief Nduese also stated that Air Commodore Nkanga was propelled by the interest of his people to be at the vanguard for agitations towards the emancipation of the Niger Delta region and the betterment of the welfare of the people.
“This saw him ascended to the position of Chairman of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, a position he managed effectively and harmoniously.”
In his response, the brother of the deceased, Elder Ekan-Ikpong Nkanga noted that his late brother was a father figure, mentor, coach and teacher whose magnanimity has seen lots of people make positive gains from him.
He prayed God to give him eternal rest.
Elder Ekan-Ikpong appreciated the show of love and concern to the family as exhibited by the Eket Senatorial District Elders Forum at this trying period and prayed God to bless the elders and the people of Eket Senatorial District.
Another brother of the deceased and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs and Social Re-Orientation, Elder Amanam Nkanga said the visit showed that the contributions of his elder brother was well being appreciated.
The wife of the late former Governor, Deaconess Funmi Nkanga said the continuous visits has encouraged and lifted the family.
In the delegation were the Deputy Chairman, Chief Obot Etukafia ;Brig. Gen. Anthony Etukudo Rtd ; Secretary,Barr. Akpadiaha Ebitu ; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong , Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh; ALGON Chairman, Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Iniobong Robson, Pastor Godwin Ukwat and Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Essien Ndueso.
Otuekong Nkanga, a former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State and a former commander of the presidential Air flight had passed unto glory few months ago.
Several food items, materials and cash donations were presented to the family of the deceased in support of the obsequies.
