Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has announced the creation of Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Akwa Ibom state.

He shared a video of the vigilante group on Facebook, writing: “Here is a cadre of the main Akwa Ibom guard of #ESN.”

“It is called Eastern Security Network (ESN) for a reason because every major ethnic nationality in the old Eastern Region and beyond is well represented, both men and women.

“ESN is not for the South East alone, it serves to protect the entire region of South East & South South.

“As you can see the LUGUBRIOUSLY named South South is accounted for in the command structure of ESN in terms of personnel and officer class,” he said on Monday.

According to Kanu, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) is a vigilante group like the Amotekun and the Miyetti Allah.

But the Nigeria Police Force has described its launch as propaganda, saying ESN operatives are yet to be seen in any of the South-East states.

“The police are on the ground and are monitoring every development. But we have not found any ESN official or camp anywhere,” a senior police officer told Sahara Reporters.

Responding, the IPOB leader said on Facebook: “How can you locate what you cannot see?”

He added that ESN operatives were in the forests and bushes of Biafraland rooting out terrorists and “you are busy driving around in your Hilux vans inside townships looking for them”.

“It is called Mission Impossible!”
