A healthy nation they say is a wealthy nation. Healthcare is important to the society because people get ill, accidents and emergencies do arise and the hospitals are needed to diagnose, treat and manage different types of ailments and health crises. Many of people’s aspirations and desires cannot be met, if they can’t live a longer, healthier and happy life.
Perhaps, this is why the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel has chosen to prioritize healthcare infrastructure since he came on board in May, 2015. Yesterday, the Media Aides of His Excellency paid a visit to the Ikot Ekpene General Hospital which is currently undergoing remodelling by His administration. If you had ever visited this facility before now, you’ll agree with me that the government deserve accolades, for its determination to change the phase of the hospital, from a very deplorable and calamitous state, to a magnificent and dignified status today.
It is no longer news that Nigeria, despite earning huge revenue from oil, her healthcare facilities are still being confronted with various problems, ranging from poor state of facilities, shortage of drugs and limited medical staff. This is one of the reasons the elites keep patronizing foreign countries on medical tourism.
However, Governor Udom Emmanuel has shown that providing a serene healthcare facility with excellent quality is not only a matter of money but love, passion and the desire to see the people you govern happy and healthy. Akwa Ibom may still have a long journey to breakthrough in the heath sector but one thing is sure, the state is moving forward.
