An unspecified number of indigenes of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State were in the early hours of Monday attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

ND REPORTERS learnt that the victims were on their way to the market when they were waylaid at Opanda, in Uzo-Uwani, leaving many of them in terrible conditions.

They were said to be coming from Obie Aku farm settlement when the assailants attacked them.

There are reports that three of the victims were confirmed dead on the spot, even as searches continue for more casualties.

ND REPORTERS also obtained graphic images of some of the victims with deadly matchet cuts.

A source hinted that the victims were rushed to the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, from where they were referred to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu.

When ND REPORTERS contacted the spokesman of the Enugu Police Command, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, he confirmed the attack.

He, however, said three people were wounded and were responding to treatment.

He said in a statement made available to ND REPORTERS that “following an information received at Nimbo Police Division in the early hours today, 26/07/2021, alleging that yet-to-be identified hoodlums attacked some persons in a location at Opanda Village in Nimbo Community of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Police Operatives attached to the Division raced to the Scene and found 3 young men with degrees of machete cuts. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are responding to treatment.
