Command arrests four suspected cultists in Rivers, recovers arm
The Rivers State Police Command on Monday said it arrested four suspected cult members.
It was learnt that the suspects, said to have been terrorising residents of Rumuolumeni area in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, were apprehended during a sting operation by men attached to the Rumuolumeni Police Station.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said one revolver pistol and three live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Omoni noted that the suspects were behind the cult wars that had claimed many lives in the area.
He identified the suspects as Godstime Wamaru (20), an indigene of Ogbakiri, in the Emohua LGA of Rivers State; Miracle Ogbonna (22), from Abia State; Raymond Mamode (21), from Edo State; and Gift Douglas (20), from Andoni, Rivers State.
“In a bid to stem the tide of the rising cult activities in the state, operatives of the Rumuolumeni Police Station on April 18 around 9pm arrested these cult members.
“They are said to be the brains behind the incessant cult wars in the area; they have made useful statements,” the police spokesman said.
Omoni explained that efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang, adding that those arrested would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
He warned that the war against armed banditry was on and cautioned kidnappers, cultists and armed robbers to stay away from the state.
